30 Aug 2009 - "Murph"

Coming back and rediscovering my blog is entirely motivated by the after-effects of today's workout. With that being said, let me show you a picture of the aftermath of today's WOD (workout of the day):

"Murph"

For time:
1 mile Run
100 Pull-ups
200 Push-ups
300 Squats
1 mile Run

WOD: 59:52

I'm not sure I was into the first mile that we started at, it took me over 10 minutes to run, and I was a little scared that I was off course because I hadn't run at the new gym yet...At about 30 minutes into it, I ripped my right hand, and about 3 minutes later, I ripped the left one pretty bad- far worse than the right one. After grinding through the pull ups, pushups, squats that last mile took me nearly 18 minutes. Pretty tough. My hands hurt like hell.

On the hero wod. When I was deployed to Afghanistan you could always know who the Navy SEALS were. They were the buffed out bearded dudes sculpted like Greek gods, pretty much doing whatever they wanted...the toughest guys on the base. I tried to keep thinking to myself that Lt. Murphy did this for fun. It makes sense that a SEAL came up with something this simple yet grueling.

Get in the water.

So, back from Texas and everything is great at home. I've started my 2nd class for my MA, and I'm sure it's going to be just as tough as the first. I'm glad to be back, and my hands have healed up pretty great from those grueling workouts in CFWF. I'm back to the really tough programming by Colin and Huff. Great stuff.

On Tuesday, I got in the water for the first time in over a month. It felt amazing! I only swam about 1000, but man it felt great to get in the water. Maybe I'll surf a little this weekend. This BBQ is going to be SWEEEET.

I'm finally home.

Well, after 5 long weeks at Sheppard AFB, I'm finally home. I got home on Friday night, near midnight, and I was never happier to be home. I had some really good experiences there, met some really neat people, and learned a lot about myself and the Air Force in general.

The best part about being there was getting to work out at CrossFit Wichita Falls with Justin Lascek, and Mark Rippetoe. In March, I set a PR of Crossfit Total of 885. Just a few months later (yesterday) I did a CFT of 945, crushing my last PR! Maybe those crazy guys in Texas are on to something...
